Artist Bio

Kim Kreis

Kim Kreis is a contemporary artist who made Birmingham, Alabama her home in 1987. Kim earned her Master’s degree in Elementary Education and spent eight years teaching fourth grade before marrying her husband, Bill. Together, Bill and Kim have had three children and three grandchildren so far who called her “Yaya.”

For twenty plus years, Kim pursued her second phase of creativity as Co-Founder and Designer for Sweet Pea Designs, a personalized stationery company. There she used original art to create a stationery “wardrobe” used by the entire family.

In 2016, Kim found that the next stage of life led naturally to her lifelong love of painting. She cites her faith and her quiet home nestled between two mountains as a constant source of inspiration. Walking horse trails, lakes, the abundance of trees, plant life and gentle creatures never fail to provide peace and inspiration.

She finds happiness in injecting her art with the joy and love she experiences in life. She tends to paint in her home studio, listening to Christian music or playing old classic movies in the background to guide her pieces. Through her art, she discovered a newfound appreciation for God’s creation.

Her most beloved series is the “Flower Ladies,” a series of paintings based on strong, compassionate women. Through the series, she aims to encourage other women to live their lives purposefully. Like a tapestry, she feels that the power of women lies not only in their individuality but their desire to embrace character traits such as gentleness, kindness, love, peace, joy, patience, faithfulness, goodness, self control and the greatest of these, love.

Each lady’s flowers are symbolic and meant to remind the viewer of the importance and beauty of character which, as in Proverbs, asks the question; “Who can find a woman of great character for she is more precious than rubies.”
